Accessibility

Please note this is a second floor apartment accessed by stairs only and the internal staircase are very steep and as such are not suitable for guests who may have mobility issues.

Directions

A car is recommended when staying at the property
  • Road from Exeter (42.0 miles)

Merchant’s Rise has private, off-road parking for its guests but, due to the size of the garage, we ask that you limit the number of cars to one. Centrally located, the roads to Merchant’s Rise are narrow and are often busy with seasonal traffic so please drive carefully and slowly.

The garage for parking is located in Oxford Street TQ6 9AL.  Although the drive round to it may seem longer than you expect, it is actually a short walk from the apartment.  It has a white double door that you push up.  Please park on the Left Hand side.  The Right Hand side space is for Merchants Rest..

If you wish to take a second car, you can park it in a public car park. The main car park in Dartmouth is Mayors Avenue but spaces are highly sought after in high season and cannot be reserved.  Street parking is available but is usually limited to one or two hours.

    Arriving by car
The easiest way to come to Merchant’s Rise and explore South Devon is by car; simply enter the property’s address into your navigation system.  However, we have also provided details below to help make our guests’ journeys easier.
If you are coming from the M5 Motorway…
Follow the signage for Plymouth (A38) until you see junction for the A384 to Totnes. Once you have reached Totnes, simply follow the signs for Dartmouth (A381 and then the A3122). You will eventually arrive at the top of Dartmouth via Townstal Road, please be aware that this is a very long and steep road so we recommend that you remain in a low gear. At the bottom of the hill, stay left and follow North Embankment Road. Continue onto South Embankment until the very end of the road and take a right turn onto ‘Cole’s Court’ then another right onto ‘Lower Street’. This area of Dartmouth is very busy with tourists in the summer season and so there may be traffic. There is a small road to the left called ‘Smith Street’, take the first left and you will be outside Merchant’s Rise.
If you are coming via Torquay, Paignton or Brixham…
We recommend that you take the Dartmouth Higher Ferry from Kingswear due to its larger size. Tickets can be purchased on their website in advance or you can pay on the day with either cash or card. Use the link below to find out more information regarding the ferry sailings and services.
